Digital Mark Reader (DMR): The Fastest OMR Technology in The Beginning of The Century

DMR was a research based software product of Graphical & Artificial Intelligence Lab, Informatics Engineering ITB in partnership with LPPM ITB since 2002-2003. It was then released by Codena – a company held by the researchers – in 2004. DMR software was awarded Indonesia APICTA in 2004 as The Best of Education & Training Application.
Since DMR was in the market, there are so many educational institutions using DMR who had time efficiency in the correction of mass examination forms. In a single PC, DMR can process forms up to 3200 images per minute. Even though it was designed to be used for schools, it was also commonly used by governmental institution and modern industry. In four years, there are about 750 licenses used by 500 institutions.
The latest large scale examination using DMR as the correction system is National Elementary School Final Test 2008 - also known UASBN 2008 - held by Ministry of Education with more than 12 millions of forms. Not only for examination, DMR is also used for psycho test, questionnaire evaluation and data entry.

Flexible Input Tools

Digital Mark Reader can accept inputs from pencil, pen, and marker. However user should use correction pen, when they are using pen and marker to correct the input if they want to change the answers.

Autorotation

Don’t worry about the paper position in the scanner, rotation and skew could be detected accurately without any manual interference or re scanning.

Sensitivity Settings

The acceptance level of mark recognition could be customized easily by setting the sensitivity. Bubbles, crossmarks and checkmarks could be detected accurately with appropriate settings.

Simple and Fast Operation

Design creation is simply a drag and drop object, DMR does not require any programming
script. Everyone in the organization can use this technology easily with or without proper training.
DMR processing speeds is faster than any of document scanner (1,500 pages/minutes), the
speed of your process will be depend on your document scanner’s speed.

High Level of Accuracy

The Form Processing technology is highly depends on form quality, image quality and scanner settings. If the form design & scanned images has good quality, plus the scanner settings is right, DMR will give you 100% accuracy. Rotated & skewed image will not be a problem for DMR.

Less Expensive Operation Cost

Document scanner does not require special thick paper. Usual 80 or 100 gsm plain paper will be suitable for DMR forms. You may also use copying machine to produce DMR forms. (This will only be working for bubbles full shading options).

The Scanner Can be Utilized for Other Purposes

While idle, user may utilize the document scanner for other purposes such as scanning document to PDF and other things depends on the available scanners and software.
